![]() ![]() If you keep the Shift key down, the scale will be uniform. The scale operation is always relative to the opposite anchor: it doesn’t take the pivot in account. and the one on the sides work only on the horizontal or vertical axis. The ones in the corners scale on both axes at the same time. To scale the selection, you have to use one of the 8 anchors around the widget. And if you do rotate it in space, it will rotate around its forward pointing axis. That is to say if you don’t transform it in space, it will rotate in 2-D, on the canvas. and if you click and drag it without the control key down, the shape will only rotate along its z-axis. This feature is great to quickly conform shapes in perspective. If you keep the Ctrl key down and rotate your shape, you will rotate it in space. However, you can do something both cool and useful. On the canvas, you can’t snap the rotation to common values like 5 degree or 15 degree increments. You can’t rotate around a point that sits outside of your selection. The pivot is bound by the frame of the widget. If you hover it, you’ll see that your icon changes into a hand. That’s the crosshair in the middle of the widget. You always move the layer or the group you transformed. The difference is that there is only one move mode. First of all, moving in free transform mode works about like the move tool. Let’s talk about the 4 operations in greater details. And if you click and drag outside of the frame, you will rotate the shape. ![]() The anchors are used to scale and the lines to shear the selection. If you click in the middle, on your shape, you’ll move the pixels. First, the frame and the anchors delimit the 4 available transforms. A new widget shows up around your selection. But for now, we are only interested in the basics: the free transform. This tool gives you access to all of Krita’s advanced transforms, like perspective, cage deformation, warp and liquify. For other transforms, like rotation or scale, you have to use the free transform tool. But with a 3rd mode, if you select a layer that’s within a group, you will not move only that layer: you will move the whole group it is in. With the first selection mode, if you select a group in the layer docker, you will move the whole group. And you can also move the whole group the layer is in. You can let the tool pick a layer based on where you click. You can only move the current layer, that’s how it works by default. The tool comes with 3 selection modes that will change the way your content is being moved. Press the T key to activate the tool and then click and drag to move your selection. It is assigned to the T key by default, as in transform. It is the fastest way to move a selection or a layer. The first tool we’re going to talk about is the move tool. Now, we have to learn how to move and transform layers. We are almost at the end of the quick start guide. ![]()
